Although the next World Cup is another four years from now, it has already got all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan dreaming about it. With the best eight teams in the ranking qualifying for the finals automatically, the remaining two slots are to be filled in by teams winning the qualifiers. But Shakib is hopeful the Tigers will qualify as one of the top eight teams.
"If we can beat the big teams, it will help us climb up the ladder. That will pave the way to finish among the top eight teams," Shakib said at his Banani residence on Thursday. He was talking to newsmen before catching a flight to India where he will play in the Indian Premier League.
The former captain hailed the youngsters - Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar and Taskin Ahmed - for their individual performances in the World Cup.
Like the just concluded World Cup, the 2019 edition will also be played in a seaming condition. But Shakib is unfazed by that challenge.
"The wickets are almost the same. Home advantage is a wrong idea. This might work in a bilateral series, but not in a World Cup. The pitches curators of the International Cricket Council make are mostly sporting wickets. That’s why Asian teams did not struggle to pick up runs in the Australia-New Zealand World Cup," Shakib observed.
